VINEYARD Harmony School Vineyard, Coombsville
WINEMAKER Roberto Alfaro
Roberto was born and raised in Michoacán, Mexico and relocated to Napa Valley at the age of seventeen. His wine journey started in 1999 when he worked in the vineyards, but he was captivated by the art and science of winemaking and the progression from the vineyard to the bottle. He studied winemaking and viticulture at Napa Valley College and worked at Caldwell Winery and Hess Collection. The assistant winemaker at Arkenstone Winery for the past 18 years, he makes his Arador Wines at the same location.
HARVEST & CELLAR NOTES Roberto sourced grapes from the Harmony School Vineyard, an historical site in the Coombsville AVA. The Cabernet Sauvignon vines were planted about two decades ago and are clonal variety number 6 which are known for their low yield and concentration of fruit flavors. They are planted in volcanic soils and Roberto says that the cooler microclimate at the site give the wine more depth, brightness, and structure.
TASTING NOTES This stunning wine opens with intense aromas of black currant, black raspberry, tobacco leaf, and a whiff of vanilla. Silky tannins wrap around flavors of black raspberry, cassis, dark chocolate, and brown baking spices. The long finish is marked with a sensation of dried Mediterranean herbs in the post palate. Enjoy it now but don’t hesitate to lay down a few bottles for the future.
